UMI

Meditation. But different.

Three questions for Umi

  • Because we need a form of contemplation (meditation of encounter) that is not loaded with metaphysical or religious baggage.

  • So that you develop an embodied, embedded, enacted, and extended cognition structure.

  • To a consolidated and active awareness of a self that is not isolated but helps to shape a reality of which it is itself a part.

Umi is a very simple meditation. So simple that it turns everything we normally associate with meditation on its head.

In Umi, we don't sit in silence, but in relationship. Not in emptiness, but in the fullness of interconnectedness. We don't have to count our breath and train our focus. We simply open ourselves to the possibility that we are interconnected beings.

Every time we slip into self-preoccupation, we bring ourselves back into relatedness with a key word.

  • To be in relationship and to sit in relationship. Settle down in being related. Settling in. Embedding.

In a place I love or in the presence of someone I love, I feel safe, secure and like I belong. I can relax. I can be. Everything becomes clear, because the confusion dissolves in the original clarity of the heart.

I don't have to concentrate. I don't have to practise mindfulness. Fulfil conditions. Develop skills. I simply allow myself to be. I let myself be.

When I leave the place or the person, I take something with me. What has awakened in me. I am a different person.

That is also the Umi practice. Everywhere and by myself.

  • Putting yourself in a relationship and being in a relationship. The most natural thing in the world. We are not isolated beings. We are fellow human beings in a co-world, and in Umi we dedicate ourselves to this naturalness. For a while, we are only what we actually are. That which is usually forgotten. We re-member.

Umi focuses on togetherness without any detours or distractions. That is the practice. Practice is already a very big word for this dedication.

CULTIVATING HOPE. LIVING HOPE.

Umi cultivates hope in the sense of this quote, because it connects us and sharpens our perception. As we experience that we can let go and let go into a whole, serenity can enter us. Hope blossoms in this serenity. From this serenity, hope unfolds into life.
