RIVERS

A NEW FORM OF MOVEMENT PRACTICE

Three questions for RIVERS

  • Because we - the cultural West - have no wisdom tradition. The RIVERS exercise system is the result of careful study of the possibilities and limitations of Eastern methods in combination with the latest Western findings in sciences such as cognitive science, psychology, philosophy, anatomy and physiology.

RIVERS is a contemporary, western form of movement, perception and cognition training that I have developed over 35 years of learning and teaching and continue to differentiate and refine.

  • When natural complexity is lost (and it has been lost), things get complicated. RIVERS is a method that allows this incredible human complexity, depth and richness to flourish. It is viable for our time.

  • Meet complexity with simplicity that can incorporate complexity.

Live a wise and healthy life.

RIVERS FAQ

  • Integral Movement is a methodology that can be applied to many areas of movement and embodiment to realise its full potential. RIVERS is a concrete application of this methodology in a new method characterised by simplicity and efficiency. RIVERS utilises all aspects (see the four quadrants above) of an integral method, which is not the case with traditional methods.

  • The RIVERS BASES may sometimes look a little like Qigong or Taiji, sometimes like Yoga. The central elements are breathing, relaxation and imagination, just like in these traditions. The unique thing about the RIVERS BASES is often the sequencing, the gradual introduction to a movement, to inner connections.

  • They expose spirals, spirals, spirals. And thus powerful movement, functional whole-body movement in everyday life, in sport, martial arts, Yoga, Qigong, ... Further: relaxation, lightness, effortlessness. Space in body and mind. Alignment. Calmness. Inner strength. And of course the nine basic physical qualities: stability, agility, flexibility, elasticity, mobility, fluidity, strength, power and endurance.
